Deep Breaths, Y'all

Deep Breaths, Y'all

I mean - but really?

Take A Deep Breath

My mom used to say this to me when I was overwhelmed of stressed growing up. Heck - she still does.

But when I was a teenager - I thought that she was just trying to ignore my feelings. MY REALLY BIG FEELINGS THAT NEEDED TO BE HEARD RIGHT THEN.

However, she was actually on to something. I learned later in yoga classes and then as a yoga teacher that our breath is a powerful tool.

When we worry or get overwhelmed or are just too caught up in our days - our breath becomes shallow. The more stressed we become - the shallower our breath can get.

Taking a deep breath (or ten) can shift everything.

Breathing in through the nose and lengthening your exhale out of your mouth cues our biological response to calm down, pause and process.

Working as a counselor - I have gotten to be trained in Breathwork - an entire healing modality based on the power of the breath to change energy and work through past memories and experiences.

However - even if you cannot take a Breathwork class or session - you can still breathe. It’s free, it’s fast and you can do it anywhere - sounds good to me.

Here is what a good set of deep breaths (3 - 10) can do for us:
